About: This assignment asked us to create a map of maximum temperatures for North America from a dataset of maximum temperatures taken at weather stations across the continent over a one month period. We had to create a template that included several cities' locations and high temperatures, as well as daily and weekly outlooks for the weather in Madison, WI. Our weather map was designed to be shown in a newspaper, and I chose the option of creating a 3" x 5" full color weather map template.
Process: The main geospatial method I learned with this map involved the interpolation of point data. I used the kriging method of interpolation so as to take as many point measurements into account when predicting values at unrecorded locations. I then smoothed and colored the areas created by the isolines in Illustrator. I also used Illustrator to create the daily and weekly outlook graphics.
